Objectifs

This course is intended for students with an interest in the media industry -ranging from the Internet and telecommunications to mainstream news and American traditional media-. The goal is to introduce students to media and culture as an industry with specific modes of production and ownership, consumption patterns and practices, and rules of control and regulation. It covers the multi-dimensional relationships between society, culture and the media industry.

Contenu

We will raise several issues:
  •  How have mass media evolved?
  •  How is information created, managed, promoted and consumed?
  •  How have traditional media been reacting to the development of new technologies?

Class discussion. High class participation is expected.
